Here's What I'm All About...

If you've ever wished you could take pictures that actually look like the moment felt — the ones that make people stop scrolling, or that you'll still love in twenty years — that's exactly why I do this.

I'm Mark, a tour, portrait and street photographer. Along the way I've been lucky enough to shoot for some of the world's biggest bands and actors, pick up recognition at the International Photography Awards, and see my work on album covers, TV and in magazines — but none of that is really the point. The point is I love photography, and I love even more helping other people fall in love with it too. Whatever's brought you here, my goal is simple: to share everything I've learned so you can take pictures you're genuinely proud of.

My Story

As a kid my dream was to either be a radio presenter or a photographer. I was obsessed with music and photography, spending all my time playing records in my bedroom whilst being fixated by the pictures on the album covers or cd sleeves. 

My obsession led to a career in radio where I made my living as a presenter and music programmer. After winning awards for my work, my career was cut short by industry cutbacks and who-you-know politics.

Around the same time, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and spent the best part of a year dealing with that, first in hospital and then at home. With no income, and plenty of time to think about what my future held, I made the decision to dedicate my time to pursuing my passion for photography. So I reached out to some bands I knew, asking if I could shoot them on tour. 

Three Irish lads called the Script invited me to shoot with them and I started to learn my trade. I noticed straight away that there was nowhere to go to ask for help when it came to concert photography and in general, there was a lot of gatekeeping and competition within the photography world which I found discouraging. 

Slowly, things started picking up — I was working with other artists and some big brands, and it felt like everything was finally coming together...and then Covid happened!

Overnight, I was back in the position of losing my job and having no income, relying on government handouts to survive. It was the lowest point in my life, I'd lost my radio career and now my photography career or so it seemed. It was at this point that I started planning the Perfect Picture Academy. I never wanted to be in this position again, where I could lose what I'd worked for, through no fault of my own, and I wanted to create a place of encouragement, support and learning. 

It's been my passion project for a number of years but now it's finally ready to share.

My Values

We don't get a lot of time, and life can change in the blink of an eye — I learned that the hard way. So I believe in using the time we do have to create something that lasts. Photographs do exactly that. They connect us to our past, bring us comfort and joy, and help the people we love remember who we were. They're one of the few things that outlive us.

That's why I want to help you take pictures worth passing down — not just snapshots, but pictures you're genuinely proud to leave behind.
